A proud history
The two companies that form the foundation of Borgestad Industries are Borgestad Fabrikker and Höganäs Bjuf AB.
Borgestad Fabrikker
Was founded in 1887 by shipowner (and later Norway’s Prime Minister) Gunnar Knudsen.
It started as a brickworks in Skien, Norway but, as early as 1889, experiments in the development of refractory brick began. The raw material then was based on rejected chamotte saggars from porcelain firing at Porsgrunds Porcelain Factory. Soon, the production of firebricks began to grow so quickly that ordinary brick production was closed down.
Borgestad Fabrikker has always been a key supplier to the Norwegian and global aluminum and ferro-alloy industries, as well as to foundries throughout Norway.
Höganäs Bjuf
With roots that date back to the foundation of Höganäs AB in southern Sweden in 1797 – at the start of the industrial revolution – Höganäs Bjuf has established a global reputation as a developer, producer and supplier of smart refractory solutions. The industries it now serves include cement manufacturing, steel production and a range of other applications that require refractories capable of withstanding high temperatures and highly corrosive or abrasive operating conditions.
Today, the activities of Borgestad Industries include research, production and sale of shaped products (brick and pre-cast) and monolithic refractories, designed to withstand temperatures exceeding 1250 degrees Celsius.
Refractory installation
An important complement to refractories development and production is the installation and maintenance services which we also provide to manufacturers in our respective customer industries via our installation subsidiary GL Contracting AS.
